The JOMASS-Green project is a leading project development undertaking aimed at producing green hydrogen and green ammonia in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This project initiative has been set in motion through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, which serves as a key facilitator for green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in Jordan.
The Jordanian government has already earmarked a five-square-kilometre area in proximity to the coast of Aqaba in southern Jordan for the Jordan Green Hydrogen Hub. This designated zone is intended to host various initiatives for green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green methanol projects, including the JOMASS-Green Project. In its initial phase, the JOMASS-Green Project is slated to occupy approximately 250,000 square meters of land.
To enable the production of green hydrogen with global certification and acceptance, new dedicated renewable energy capacities are planned to be integrated into green hydrogen projects. Project developers are expected to establish and manage new photovoltaic (PV) solar and wind farms in various selected locations. The energy generated from these renewable sources will be exclusively used to power green hydrogen production plants.
Concurrently, the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral resources (MEMR) is collaborating with further Ministries in Jordan and with Aqaba Development Company (ADC) to plan and develop essential infrastructure for green hydrogen and green ammonia projects. This infrastructure is expected to include facilities for seawater intake, a 10-million-cubic-meter-per-annum water desalination plant, ammonia export pipelines, ammonia storage facilities, and an ammonia export port.
